Celeste is a small Peruvian restaurant located in the heart of Somerville. Celeste is exclusive, yet personal. Small, yet sophisticated. All of their dishes are artfully handmade, as the owners are both artists themselves. Due to the handcrafted attention to detail they put into all of their cuisine, I decided to hand design the type for the new wordmark. During my research into Peruvian culture, I found the recurring themes of bright textiles, beautiful landscapes, and the Incan Cross. Using the same weight from the word mark, I created the logomark while keeping in mind the acidic nature of their dishes, elements of the Incan Cross, the idea of a celestial star, and the sharp angles found in Peruvian textiles. “Celeste” translates to “sky blue” and is the brand's current primary color. To keep this motif alive, I kept sky blue at the forefront of my design while adding other bold yet refined colors that further reflect the variety and nature of Peruvian dishes.
